Brokers

What it does

The Brokers page is where you connect your broker accounts to the dashboard. Once connected, the dashboard can pull your live holdings and positions and merge them across brokers everywhere portfolio totals appear.

The dashboard supports six brokers, in two flavours:

  • OAuth login — Zerodha Kite, Upstox, Fyers. You’re redirected to the broker’s official login page.
  • API key based — Angel One, Dhan, Groww. You paste the API credentials issued by the broker.

You only ever provide credentials to the broker (for OAuth) or store the broker-issued API keys (for the credential-based flow). The dashboard never asks for your password directly.

When to use it

  • First-time setup — connect at least one broker so Holdings populates.
  • A connection has expired and you need to refresh it.
  • You opened a new account with a different broker.
  • You want to disconnect a broker (e.g., you closed the account).

How to use it

Connect an OAuth broker (Kite, Upstox, Fyers)

  1. Open Brokers from the sidebar footer.
  2. Find the broker’s card and click Connect.
  3. You’re sent to the broker’s official login page. Sign in there with your broker credentials.
  4. After approving, you’re redirected back to the dashboard. The card now shows Connected with an expiry date.

Connect an API-key broker (Angel One, Dhan, Groww)

  1. Generate an API key from the broker’s developer console (each broker has its own steps — see your broker’s documentation).
  2. On the dashboard’s Brokers page, click Connect on the broker’s card.
  3. Paste the API key (and any other required fields the form asks for, e.g., API secret or client ID).
  4. Click Save. The card flips to Connected.

Refresh an expired connection

OAuth sessions expire periodically (this is enforced by the brokers, not the dashboard).

  1. The card shows Disconnected or Expired.
  2. Click Connect again and complete the broker login.

Disconnect a broker

  1. Click the broker’s card.
  2. Click Disconnect.
  3. The dashboard immediately stops fetching that broker’s data, and any cached holdings are cleared from your view.

Tips & gotchas

  • You can connect more than one broker. Holdings from all of them appear together on the Holdings page, with a broker badge on each row.
  • Sessions expire often — typically daily for OAuth brokers. If holdings stop updating, that’s the most likely cause; reconnect and you’re good.
  • API keys are secret. Treat them like a password — don’t share them.
  • Disconnecting is instant. It clears the dashboard’s view; it does not affect anything on the broker’s side.
  • If a broker’s card doesn’t accept your credentials, double-check on the broker’s portal that the API access is enabled and the keys are active.
