Geopolitical intelligence

What it does

Geopolitical intelligence is a map and timeline of significant world events — conflicts, policy moves, trade actions, sanctions — scored by severity and linked back to the sectors and companies they’re likely to affect. If you’ve connected a broker (or added manual investments), the page also shows a portfolio impact view: which of your holdings are most exposed to each event.

When to use it

  • A major event is in the news and you want to know whether your portfolio is exposed.
  • You’re sizing a position in a sector that’s sensitive to policy or geopolitics (energy, defence, semiconductors).
  • You want a running record of what’s happened and how it’s been classified.

How to use it

  1. Open Geopolitical from the sidebar.
  2. The main view combines:
    • A world map with pins for active events.
    • A timeline showing when events occurred and how they connect.
    • A side panel with event details, severity, and entities involved.
  3. Use the filters on the side panel to narrow by:
    • Event type (conflict, policy, trade, sanctions, etc.)
    • Severity (Critical, High, Medium, Low)
    • Region
  4. Open the Portfolio impact section to see which of your holdings are flagged as exposed, and how strongly.

You can pan and zoom the map, and play/pause the timeline to step through history.

Tips & gotchas

  • Severity is a model judgement, not a guarantee. Use it to prioritise reading, not as a trade trigger.
  • Portfolio impact requires holdings. Connect a broker or add manual investments first, otherwise the impact panel is empty.
  • The page is informational. It’s not a hedging tool — pair it with Restructuring if you want to act on the signal.
  • News — headline-level coverage.
  • Market overview — see the macro effect of geopolitical events on indices and FX.
  • Restructuring — turn an exposure concern into a concrete plan.
